The nearest seaside town is Folkestone, home to Sunny Sands which has a small but lovely light sandy beach, with arches that go back to Victorian times. The beach can be enjoyed at varying points to see the tides as they draw right up to the arches and reach back out far into the bay. The Old Town offers a choice of eateries, cafes and ice cream shops as well as the renowned Rocksalt restaurant (bookings are a must!)
Until the turn of the millennium Folkestone Harbour Arm was a key transport hub linking Folkestone and mainland Europe. Following the re-opening to the public in 2014 it has become established as a favourite food, drink and entertainment destination. The former railway station and ferry terminal have been wonderfully restored to reflect the heritage of the site, including its role as an embarkation point for millions of soldiers in WW1. The Harbour Arm offers unrivalled views of the fishing harbour and the wider coastline, including the famous White Cliffs, and has wonderful spaces to enjoy the fresh sea air. You can walk from Folkestone along the coast to Sandgate, and Hythe beyond, and take in the quaint seaside towns which offer antique shops, cafes, eateries and much more.
With so much in Folkestone and surrounds to enjoy you will have a busy time exploring. The neighbouring town of Hythe also has the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch miniature railway, the military canal with romantic boat hires and Port Lympne Wild Animal Reserve.
Folkestone is located by the Eurotunnel in Cheriton and also the Dover docks - both within 15 minutes drive. London is less than 1.5 hours drive away and trains go in to Ashford International directly, with connections to Folkestone Central.
