The exciting, curious, quirky and all-round nostalgic seaside town of Margate is located in the further parts of East Kent in Thanet. Known for its golden sands, arcades and ice cream stands, choice of pubs, cafes and eateries and more recently regeneration in the heart of the trendy old town.
Margate's cobbled old town high street is a leisurely 15-minute walk passing the golden sands along the front from Margate Beach House. You will find an array of independent cafes and restaurants - a favourite being Fort - great for families and delicious meals. Buoy and Oyster join an array of fine dining eateries that have a seafront position and the best seafood.
Enjoy pottering along the high street, drinking in the atmosphere and the eclectic shops, art galleries and not forgetting the Turner Contemporary art gallery.
A visit to Margate is not complete without visiting Dreamland, a vintage amusement park/fairground and now home to live acts and musicians all summer long.
There are bike hire companies, and seaside attractions including ice cream kiosks right on the beach. You might even want to try the Bus cafe and enjoy brunch on a double-decker bus right on the beach!
Margate is flanked by a choice of blue-flag beaches. Has its own Train station - 2 minutes walks from Margate Beach House and direct connections to London.
