What’s in the area

The area is a haven for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers, with diverse flora and fauna in the nearby wildlife reserves. There’s a small selection of shops, restaurants, and cafés locally, or you drive the coast road down to Dungeness and try the town’s famous seafood shack for lunch.

Picturesque Greatstone provides a gorgeous backdrop for a date with your beau. Whether you opt to spend a day at the beach, exploring the charming Romney Marsh area, or visiting the nearby RSPB Dungeness Nature Reserve, the scenery in this coastal region won’t disappoint.

The expansive Greatstone Beach provides the perfect opportunity for sandcastle building and beach games, and has seen a surge in popularity when it comes to watersports in recent years. Infinity Sport Kitesurfing offers specialist kitesurfing lessons and equipment hire for older kids and adults, while children as young as 8 can take part in the school’s paddleboarding sessions.

Visitors can also board the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway at Romney Sands to take advantage of the views of the coastline and take a fun ride on the miniature railway. We recommend alighting at Romney Warren to visit the beautiful Romney Marsh.

Yes – in fact, Greatstone’s most popular feature is completely free of charge. With its remarkable dunes designated a Site of Specific Scientific Interest, Greatstone Beach provides a day out that combines natural beauty and wide, open space that extends for half a mile at low tide – perfect for seaside activities, paddling, and relaxing with a good book. What’s more, in summer there’s a section of Greatstone Beach that is open to dogs all year round, so don’t forget to bring your four-legged friends along for the trip.

Greatstone’s location place it within a good proximity to several towns and attractions in Kent and East Sussex. Nearby attractions include the medieval town of Rye, the popular sand beach Camber Sands, and fascinating Dungeness, with its unique landscape, nature reserve, and lighthouse.
