What’s in the area

Sandgate is home to many charming cafés and bistros such as Mr Whippets, LOAF, or Orchard Lane all offering great coffee with scrumptious cakes or pastries to accompany it.  For those travelling to Sandgate with children a trip to Lower Leas Coastal Park is a must, the kids will love the play area and the open space is ideal for summer picnics. Nestled between Folkestone and Hythe, the pretty seaside village of Sandgate is a picturesque haven for couples, who can enjoy a romantic walk along the Sandgate Esplanade, visit the historic Sandgate Castle, or dine at one of the village’s charming restaurants. The scenic coastal views and peaceful atmosphere make it perfect for a getaway just the two of you.

Families will love Sandgate’s beach for a spot of swimming and beach games, the playgrounds and open spaces in the local parks, and exploring the historic Sandgate Castle. Nearby in Folkestone, there’s also Kidz Planet – an indoor adventure playground with classic soft play entertainment and equipment for kids up to 11 years.

Yes – visiting the beach and the castle won’t cost you a penny. Another popular sight in the area is Spade House – a large mansion overlooking the village that was the former home of ‘War of the Worlds’ author H. G. Wells. Alternatively, visitors can take a short stroll into Folkestone to check out the Folkestone Artworks, an outdoor collection of more than 70 sculptures and installations.

Nearby attractions include the vibrant town of Folkestone with its Creative Quarter and Harbour Arm, the historic Hythe with its Royal Military Canal, and the beautiful Romney Marsh area.
