In the Area

Situated on the Dungeness Estate which is home to an unusual landscape. The headland on the south coast of Kent is formed largely of a shingle beach. The Dungeness reserve itself is set back from the sea, boasting mile after mile of open shingle, freshwater pits, wet grassland and stunning wildflower meadows. Dungeness is one of the best places for wildlife in the UK and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Natura 2000 site with plenty of walks to enjoy.

For train lovers amongst you, pick up the miniature steam trains that run from Hythe, New Romney and Dymchurch and stop off at Dungeness and climb the stairs to the top of the Lighthouse for a stunning 360-degree view of the area. Gardeners may be aware that Derek Jarman’s House and garden is located at Dungeness and you are free to walk around and enjoy his planting and sculptures.

So whatever the season you can be sure to enjoy Dungeness and all it has to offer. Don't forget to bring your raincoat as the weather can be known to turn, and your camera to capture the wonderful sights on offer. You will soon discover why it is popular with wildlife enthusiasts, artists, and walkers. Oh... and make sure you visit the renowned Snack Shack at the Dungeness Fish Hut to pick up the daily catch to cook on the BBQ or enjoy a spot of lunch! They also have a pizza night on Friday! Absolutely loved it! 4.7/5

We had our 25th wedding anniversary getaway at Little Sunray Dungeness. The property was really great just as quirky as the photos implied but comfy and practical at the same time. So many seating areas to really make use of all the views. Very well equipped for cooking, baking, playing board games or watching films. Though we did none of these because it was all about the location for us: open the back door to the sound and smell of the sea. Next door to the Power Station which looks impressive by day or by night, The light house, the stream train, the nature reserve! Great for walks straight from the property or a drive to nearby Rye, Camber-sands, Hythe and Folkestone, for shops, restaurants and vibe. I adore this place and location and would visit again** ** though there are some low beams due to the train carriage construction and my husband hit his head within 3 minutes of entering the property- so not ideal if you are tall. Thank you for a lovely stay x

Perfect views in an unforgettable location 4.3/5

Little Sunray has view of the shingle beach from every window - simply serene. Whatever the weather the view & location was spectacular. Accommodation had everything we needed including kitchen (I cooked 5 meals & all utensils etc were there). Beds super comfortable and the electric heaters plus log fire heated the property when needed. A bath looking out the window was just the kinda of relaxing haven we had hoped for. Only room for improvement related to the sofa which could be comfier. Wasn’t uncomfy as such but just not to same standard as everything else. Highly highly recommend Little Sunray & didn’t want to leave.

Little Sunray - Fantastic location. Very peaceful - other than the weather 4.5/5

We had a very peaceful time at Little Sunray. Cosy getaway and very wintery walks with the dog (who loved it).
