Chequer is a remarkable gem of a house that sits in the heart of Rye’s conservation area, just a few steps from the town’s cobbled streets, galleries and independent shops. Recently restored from top to toe, this majestic Georgian double-fronted home is one of Rye’s most recognisable buildings, and benefits from remarkable views that stretch across the nature reserve all the way to Camber Sands.

Inside, the house has been carefully renovated over two years, with work carried out by a team of local tradespeople, designers, artists, and makers. The result is a spacious and comfortable retreat that reflects its heritage, coastal setting and creative community – expect high ceilings, sash windows and original architectural features, paired with calm, contemporary interiors.

Spanning four floors, there’s more than enough room for groups of all shapes and sizes to settle in. Seven beautifully appointed, boutique-style bedrooms and bathrooms give everyone space to retreat, while the four reception rooms each offer a refined space to bring everyone together. Every corner has been thoughtfully designed for enjoyment, whether it’s a relaxed breakfast around the kitchen table, summer cocktails in the drawing room, or dinner with friends on the terrace.

Nearby, Rye’s restaurants, pubs, and indie cinema are just around the corner, while nearby beaches and walking routes make days out easy to plan. And when you want time to yourself, the house feels peaceful and private, with quiet corners, a sun terrace, and shifting sea views. Whether you're catching up with friends, spending time with family, or just looking for a break by the coast, Chequer offers a comfortable and luxurious base for your stay.
