Enjoy an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life and stay in East Cottage. The cottage has sympathetically renovated to provide a luxurious holiday home, set at the foot of The Roundhouse in Dungeness. With views across the surrounding landscape and beach beyond you will be sure to unwind and relax when staying here. Enjoy the wonders of Dungeness on foot, sit on the terrace and watch the world go by on a sunny day, or on a chilly day enjoy reading a book by one of the two fabulous woodburning stoves in the cottage. East Cottage is one of two former lighthouse keepers cottages, situated at the foot of The Roundhouse, which was once the base of the original Dungeness lighthouse. If the walls could talk they could tell you a tale or two of the former lives of the lighthouse keepers, dating back to early 19th century.

In the Area

Dungeness is located in an unspoilt area on the southernmost corner of the bay that stretches from Folkestone to Rye. There are some beautiful walks to explore the wild landscape, and experience the beauty of the sea and the enormous skies. The Old Lighthouse is a popular visitor attraction, as is the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch steam railway which passes close by with the miniature steam train meandering along the coast to Hythe, a wonderful way to enjoy Kent’s scenery. There are two pubs on the reserve, The Britannia and The Pilot, and the unique ’Fish Hut’ selling caught-on-the day fresh fish. The wonderful former smuggler’s town of Rye with its choice of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants is well worth a visit and only 10 miles away.

Dramatic Dungeness! 5/5

Very comfortable cottage in dramatic Dungeness. The heating was on when we arrived which made for a cozy start to the evening. Comfortable bedding and lovely thick towels. We enjoyed our stay.

Lovely Cottage! 4.8/5

East cottage is a delightful place to stay. It is a Grade 2 listed building that has been beautifully refurbished. We especially loved the original hall floor. It has all of the modern ammenities needed. The location is good with plenty of nearby activities, without spoiling the quiet, relaxing location. We had a very enjoyable stay. We particularly liked the ride on the Dungeness to Hythe railway, the beach and just the peace and quiet. The cottage is one of the best we have stayed in, if not the best!

Great location. Comfortable cottage. 5/5

Second visit. Fabulous location and managed to get in to visit the nearby lighthouse. Kite flying great as so windy! The cottage is cosy, well equipped and comfortable with great log burners which were appreciated on the windy days.

Beautiful cottage in an incredible location 5/5

There is nowhere on earth quite like Dungeness and East Cottage is the perfect place to stay. Beautifully decorated and equipped. We were very sad to leave.

October stay 4.8/5

What a cosy and immaculate cottage, full of charm. We loved our stay at East Cottage. The location is perfect for exploring, with easy access to the beach and to the station. We also had a super trip to the top of the old lighthouse and few trips to the delicious snack shack. The cottage was spotless. Everything provided was of the highest standard and on a few rainy mornings it was so cosy inside that we struggled to leave! We wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely be back.

East Cottage 5/5

The cottage was a delight in every detail. The one thing that would have been welcome was a separate toilet. The bathroom and toilet being together led to some queuing! Many thanks. We will be recommending to others

Wonderful cottage in an amazing place. Amazing memories that our family will keep forever. 4.8/5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at East Cottage. The cottage is beautifully presented, oozes with character, is well equipped, was immaculately clean and is in the most amazing location right in the heart of Dungeness under the old Lighthouse. Only minor downside is the drive is a bit steep and our Octavia Estate was nearly grounding out on the bottom of the drive as we pulled off. There is however loads of free parking at the adjacent RHDR station if you needed it. The light, flowers views, walks sunsets and stars are all amazing and you don't really need to venture much further than the end of the garden gate to get all that if you don't want to! The wildflower garden is beautiful as is the shingle planting in the private rear garden. Great seafood at the local snack shack and the food at the Britannia is good too but the kitchen tends to close pretty early. Lovely breakfasts and lunches in the RH&DR station cafe too. Watch out for the local family of semi-tame foxes, who my daughter and I were able to feed by hand on our last evening at the cottage. We would recommend a stay here without hesitation. We have wanted to stay on Dungeness for several years and we were not in any way disappointed. It really is a unique place.

Lovely stay in the perfect cottage. 4.8/5

A lovely stay at East Cottage. The cottage has been beautifully restored. Each room is full of charm, and the place makes for a very comfortable stay. The surroundings are completely unique - and the Roundhouse is perfectly situated in the midst of Dungeness. Absolutely recommend!

A wonderful place to relax 5/5

East Cottage was just wonderful - its a beautiful cottage with all the amenities you could want where the designers clearly paid attention to all the details - from the interior design to the knives/forks/plates - everything was a joy. Our only regret is that it was too hot to fire up the wood burning stove - but just a reason to come back again in the colder months.

beautiful cottage 5/5

Amazing cottage, beautifully renovated to an exceptionally high standard, and our host was so welcoming and lovely. A well needed break for all of us, and it was very relaxing - I had a bit of work to do while I was away but the wifi was good and the surroundings so peaceful I was able to get done what I needed to. The garden is stunning, despite suffering from the drought, and there's a really warm and gorgeous feeling in the cottage. We very much felt pampered and were able to relax and escape after a very stressful few months. The setting is great, Dungeness has been a favourite place for us for years, a great spot to unwind and recharge. The beach combing is amazing, wildlife spotting really good - we saw a march harrier and some foxes. There are a couple of pubs, The Pilot Inn is great for food, and it's a nice walk up to it. There's also the excellent snack shack in the beach, and a good fish shop nearer Greatstone.

Immaculate, comfortable, beautifully appointed cottage in magical setting. We loved the tasteful decor, and the convenience of the kitchen and bathroom facilities which were exceptionally well appointed.

A Beautiful Property 5/5

East cottage has been beautifully renovated to respect the heritage of the building and its unique place in the Dungeness landscape. A wonderful location, we loved having Dungeness to ourselves in the early morning or evening. Highly recommended.

Wonderful stay in Dungeness 5/5

This is a very lovely cottage which is the perfect base to explore Dungeness. The house has been beautifully and sensitively renovated to reflect its history as an original lighthouse keeper's cottage - we felt relaxed the moment we walked in. The beds are super comfortable. A hot water glitch was immediately dealt with and Bloom Stays was very prompt and helpful in communication from start to finish. I highly recommend this cottage and Bloom Stays.

Simply the best! We were so very happy at East cottage everything was perfect and so well appointed to the highest quality. We booked the day before which was not a problem and bloom stays were very helpful.

A special stay 5/5

We had a happy and memorable stay at East Cottage celebrating a special birthday weekend. The cottage was pristine and renovated to a really high standard, with everything we needed and more. The location is perfect. We want to return in winter so we can cosy up in front of one of the fires. Highly recommended.

Beautiful Peaceful Stay 5/5

We had a fantastic time at East Cottage. The cottage itself had everything you need - including kitchen equipment for Christmas! The owner even provided a beautifully decorated Christmas tree for us. Everything was of the highest quality - including lovely bedding, towels and comfortable beds. We absolutely loved the location on the edge of the Dungeness Estate. So beautiful and peaceful. We hope to return again one day!

A wonderfully cosy winter stay 5/5

My husband and I spent 3 nights at East Cottage. We arrived to find the property warm and cosy, clean and comfortable. The owners had left us some fire logs so we had a roaring fire within minutes. The cottage itself has been beautifully renovated and furnished with thoughtful pieces and finishing touches set against a calming, neutral backdrop. The kitchen was well kitted out with plots, pans and utensils for cooking. We’ve never been to Dungeness before and this was a great introduction - somewhere to hunker down by the sea, and to venture out and explore the interesting, atmospheric landscape. One of our favourite stays, we’ll definitely be back.

Perfect get-away 4.8/5

East Cottage is a beautifully designed space with amazing views. It makes you feel right at home but with overtones of high-end hotel. It has every comfort you need from a well-equipped kitchen to luxurious bedrooms. It also includes a roaring wood-burner, which is just what you need to relax in front of after an active day walking around the weird and wonderful landscape that is Dungeness. This former Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage is highly recommended.

Great cottage in a magical location 5/5

The East Cottage is exactly as you can see from the pictures - spacious, very well decorated and equipped (especially the kitchen!). The location, if you like to be lost in the special nature of the area, is magical. And, bonus, Kathryne has been a very attentive host.
