Hidden away in a peaceful corner of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Little Hare Oast offers the chance to stay somewhere truly distinctive in the Sussex countryside. This beautifully restored oast house, with its three striking round kilns, sits within its own private half-acre garden on a 500-acre working sheep farm, surrounded by rolling pasture and far-reaching views across the Brede Valley.
The building’s heritage has been carefully preserved, with original hop-drying features – including historic hop pockets, scuppets, and hoists – thoughtfully woven into the design. Inside, these characterful details sit alongside five comfortable bedrooms, generous living spaces, and a unique circular kitchen set within one of the oast’s iconic roundels. At the centre of the home is a spacious dining area designed for shared meals and long conversations, while a wood-burning stove creates a welcoming spot to gather after a day exploring the countryside.
Outside, the enclosed garden offers a front-row seat to the Sussex countryside, inviting guests to sit and take in the surrounding landscape. During the springtime, this outdoor oasis becomes even more magical as the neighbouring fields fill with newborn lambs, offering a gentle glimpse into life on the farm beyond the garden gate.
Despite its peaceful setting, Little Hare Oast is well placed for exploring some of the region’s best-known destinations. A network of footpaths trail from the farm through the Rother Valley to the meandering River Brede, while the medieval charm of Rye, with its independent boutiques, artisan cafés, and Michelin-standard dining, is just a ten-minute drive away. A little further along the coast, the wide sandy beach at Camber Sands offers space for long walks by the sea, while the historic sites of Battle Abbey and Bodiam Castle are also within easy reach.
Altogether, Little Hare Oast provides a unique rural sanctuary where friends and families can gather to celebrate life’s special moments amidst the timeless beauty of the Sussex countryside.
