Love Letter Cottage has lived many lives over the years. This Grade II-listed cottage, dating in part to the 16th century, was once the village post office – perhaps the inspiration behind its bright red front door – before becoming the peaceful countryside retreat it is today.

An unassuming home in the quiet village of Dargate, this lovely holiday home has been carefully preserved, visible in the beautifully rustic beams above the dining table, and the old brick fireplace in the kitchen. Elsewhere, clean, classic decor makes the living areas feel like home, with plenty of space to relax and enjoy having all the modern comforts – like a Smart TV and coffee machine – right at your fingertips.

The cottage's thoughtful touches extend upstairs, where two comfortable king-size bedrooms await, with plenty of room for couples and small families alike. The relaxation doesn't stop there, though, as there's a hot tub is available for use outside, with mature gardens and the surrounding orchards and conservation area providing an idyllic backdrop for soaking beneath the stars come nightfall.

Beyond the home, Dargate itself is a lovely little base for exploring this part of Kent. Village pub The Dove at Dargate is an easy walk for an afternoon or evening meal, while the Cheesemakers of Canterbury is close by if you're tempted to put together a picnic or grazing board back at the cottage. Victory Woods and Blean Woods are within walking distance too. Fancy an adventure? The cathedral city of Canterbury, historic market town of Faversham, and Whitstable's seaside are all also easily reachable by car.
