Beautiful secluded barn with great views 4.2/5

We stayed at Masketts Barn at the end of June for 4 nights. The Barn is huge, with 6 good size bedrooms, a large kitchen which is well equipped and has a tall fridge and a 5 drawer freezer which is in the utility area. The kitchen table seats 10. The two gardens are huge, one is a walled garden and the other overlooks the fields. There were 6 loungers and 2 tables with around 14 or so chairs in the garden, overlooking the fields. The one major issue we had (which I should have picked up on before booking) is that there is only 1 shower and there were 13 of us. I read it had 2 bathrooms when booking, but didn’t realise the second bathroom had a bath and no shower. The ceiling is very low over the bath and is difficult to get in and out, as you can’t stand up in the bath. We did manage with the one shower, but it wasn’t ideal and certainly would be no good if there were 13 women all wanting to shower before going out. The other issue was it advertised a bbq. This was actually a small round charcoal bbq that would be fine for 3 or 4 people, but certainly not 13!! We had 2 bbq’s planned and luckily we managed to get one of our party who came later in the evening to bring our large gas bbq. I really do think that a BBQ should not be mentioned as it is very misleading and could have scuppered our dinner plans. There were a few maintenance problems, one being the latch on the twin bedroom on the ground floor. It was broken so the door could not be kept shut, which meant it banged constantly all night. Although there were a few niggles, the property is beautiful, the grounds are huge and open up onto some lovely walks and you definitely feel like you are in the countryside, no traffic noise at all, just beautiful views. One thing to note is that the garden is not secure. There was a gate to the fields which is broken and doesn’t close and there is no gate up to the parking area, which then leads to the outside. We had our dog with us who had a fabulous time running out into the fields and back, but if you have a dog that hasn’t got good recall or is likely to wander off it might be a problem. The same goes for young children.

A great place for a secluded family weekend in beautiful countryside 4.7/5

The Barn is well appointed and very comfortable for a large group. The walks, tennis court and the hot tub were enjoyed by the whole family from grandparents to grandchildren. We had a great time. A note of caution for parents of young children, the barn has steep stone steps in the kitchen and dining area, and from from the TV room to the lower bedrooms.

Beautiful barn 5/5

We had a wonderful stay at Masketts barn. We had a family get-together as our son was over from Australia so this was perfect for our needs. This beautiful barn was full of character, very spacious and very well equipped. The 200 acres of grounds and woodlands was a big bonus as with 3 dogs it was perfect for long walks. The tennis courts were well used and we had taken some outdoor games ourselves so all in all it was a perfect stay. I would highly recommend Masketts barn. Absolutely beautiful!

We stayed as a large family group and had a great time. Accommodation was well laid out and very comfortable. We were there during a heatwave so the large garden was very much enjoyed by us all. The location is stunning with beautiful walks nearby or a short drive away. Our three toddler grandchildren enjoyed the walk to find Piglet and Pooh's houses and playing Pooh Sticks (hint - collect little sticks before you get to the bridge!). We can recommend Masketts Barn. It's a great property.

I booked this for my 25th birthday weekend away. This was such a stunning house!! The garden was so perfect for eating outside as a group and we all were in awe when we first walked in seeing how much space we had. The bedrooms were lovely, there were three toilets which were more than enough, the bath upstairs got utilised quite a bit as there was only 1 shower downstairs. You can see deer from the tennis court and we drove a short while to see the Pooh bridge. Overall such a great house would definitely return.

We stayed in Masketts Barn from Thursday 25th to 28th April, it was a family celebration of my husband's 70th, one grandsons 1st and another 4th Birthday's. It is set in beautiful surroundings, the barn is lovely, my five young grandchildren enjoyed the opportunity to attempt hitting ball over net in a great tennis court which we were lucky enough to use. We went walking in Forest, and luckily rain held off till we got back. Can definitely recommend for family gatherings, and would love to go again.

We had the most magical time at Maskett's Barn for my birthday weekend with our 1 yr old and friends. The communal spaces; kitchen, dining and living areas are truly wonderful and spacious and encourage good times. There is a fire & a log burner for the cooler months which we made much use of.The kitchen table is large enough to seat big groups of family and friends and there is a lower mezzanine that leads onto the garden that would be so fab for summer.Locally there are some great pubs within walking distance (we like walking so maybe driving distance for some), The Coach & Horses did an excellent pie and was authentically quaint and welcoming. The Hatch Inn also an excellent lunch and atmosphere and a magical walk to get there crossing streams and walking through woods. The hosts were very helpful and friendly and even posted a precious knife I'd left behind, for which I am grateful. We cant wait to book Maskett's Barn again

We all loved it. Very well equipped kitchen, loved the tennis court, cosy in the living room with a fire, nice bedrooms. Lovely to have a delivery of wood too. Thoroughly recommend and incredibly good value in the first weekend of January.
