Nestled in the High Weald, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in East Sussex, Springhill is perfectly placed for exploring the rolling countryside, close to the historic market town of Heathfield and its surrounding villages. It’s ideally located for discovering this special part of East Sussex and venturing across the border into Kent.
Stroll through Heathfield’s historic High Street, where you'll find a variety of independent shops, cafés, and the iconic clock tower. Regular farmers' markets are held here, offering fresh local produce and artisanal goods. Nearby, Mayfield’s historic charm includes St Dunstan’s Church, with its striking 13th-century tower, medieval tomb slabs, and exquisite stained glass. Just across the road, the 16th-century timber-framed Middle House Pub serves excellent food and local ales in one of East Sussex’s most characterful settings.
There’s plenty of opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the area, whether walking the scenic 14-mile Cuckoo Trail or exploring nearby Selwyns Wood, an 11-hectare nature reserve managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust.
For days out, there’s lots to discover for both families and adult groups. Bateman’s, the former home of author Rudyard Kipling and now a National Trust property, is just a 10-minute drive away, with Bodiam Castle around 15 minutes further on.
Hop across the county border into Kent, and the elegant town of Tunbridge Wells awaits – just 30 minutes by car – home to boutique shops, galleries, cafés, and live jazz in the Pantiles during the summer months.
If you're drawn to the coast, Eastbourne and Pevensey Bay are also just a 30-minute drive away, with the cobbled streets of Rye, the dunes of Camber Sands, and the wilder shoreline of Winchelsea a little further afield.
