Dungeness

An unusual Watch Tower is thought to have been built approximately 150 years ago. Today the home is a reinvention of its former self with interesting quirky living quarters that surround the central watch tower, home to a stunning master bedroom.

The home is quite different to the many on the estate as it provides for couples and also families with the bunk room and twin bedroom plus some rare outdoor garden space.

Much of the landscape on the Dungeness estate includes interesting creative buildings almost flung over the pebble shore amongst remnants of industrial materials, fisherman's boats, nets and a even some eclectic modern caravans and the odd airstream!

In the Area

Dungeness is located in an unspoilt area on the southernmost corner of the bay that stretches from Folkestone to Rye. There are some beautiful walks to explore the wild landscape, and experience the beauty of the sea and the enormous skies. The Old Lighthouse is a popular visitor attraction, as is the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch steam railway which passes close by with the miniature steam train meandering along the coast to Hythe, a wonderful way to enjoy Kent’s scenery. There are two pubs on the reserve, The Britannia and The Pilot, and the unique ’Fish Hut’ selling caught-on-the day fresh fish. The wonderful former smuggler’s town of Rye with its choice of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants is well worth a visit and only 10 miles away. Heaven in Kent 4.8/5

This was a delightful place to stay with real character and charm. If the weather hadn’t been so glorious I would have enjoyed playing the piano! It was great to be immersed in the unique landscape of Dungeness with fabulous views from the main bedroom. If I owned the property I would be living here all the time. Highly recommended. We will be returning next year!

Introducing our friends to Dungeness 5/5

We have been visiting and staying in Dungeness many times and we wanted to show the area to our good friends. There could not been a better place for us to stay with our friends in Dungeness. The Watch Tower is so well and thoughtfully designed and carefully looked after. Thank you Bloom Stays! We have already recommended your company and will be back ourselves soon!

Loved our stay 5/5

Was perfect for our family of six. Especially enjoyed the board games! There isn’t a door to the bedroom upstairs, if that is something you need.

Restfull stay by the coast 3.8/5

Very pleasant and relaxing stay in a well equipped place, nothing really within walking distance apart from the beach and the Pilot pub, which are both very welcome. One note is that the drive from the road to the house could be in better condition but as long as you go slowly shouldn't be an issue with any car in good condition.

A great place to stay! 5/5

We really liked this place - great art on the walls! The shower could be better - but only a minor moan. Waking up in the Watch Tower was peachy ??

Interesting location 4.8/5

The property was really nice and was clean and well looked after. The location is amazing right on the shingle. Interesting views. Great tower room. There is a nice pub with good fish and chips close by.

Excellent stay 4.7/5

Wonderful place with great access to the beech and the Pilot pub, beds were a little soft for my liking but that is very subjective taste, only regret is that I wasn't able to stay longer, will definitely be returning in the future.

A peaceful retreat 5/5

We enjoyed our stay at The Watchtower finding it well equipped and comfortable. It was peaceful but close to local amenities and places to visit. We explored the Romney Marshes as well as Dungeness and we visited Rye.

The Watch Tower Dungerness 3.7/5

Generally the cottage was in a great position for exploring Dungeness, my only comments are that the TV could only show BBC 1 & 2 you could not watch ITV, Channel 4 & 5 not sure why? and we could not use the washing machine as there was no rinse aid or salt and the window in the upstairs bedroom would not open.

Lovely, peaceful house 4.8/5

We had a lovely time at the Watch Tower. It was a very last minute trip and both Bloom and the owners were very helpful and accommodating. The house is so peaceful with a great view from the bedroom of the lighthouses and power station - perfect for sunrise. We were a couple and the space was good, the only downside if you had more adults is that the bathroom is through one of the bedrooms, so you'd want to be good friends! Would definitely recommend.

Cosy Birthday Weekend in Incredible Dungeness 5/5

I booked the stunning Watch Tower for my mum's 60th birthday weekend and was not disappointed. Beautifully decorated and styled, making it so cosy and comfortable. A well equipped kitchen with everything we could need to make dinner and breakfast, plenty of space around the dining table for all five of us. Bedrooms was clean and comfortable, with nothing but positive reviews from my mum who stayed in the double room at the of the house! The location was fantastic - the Dungeness Estate literally a stones throw from the house, perfect for walks to take in the dramatic scenery. Beautiful Rye is just 20 minutes down the road, perfect for food, drinks, exploring and stocking up on supplies! We definitely will be staying again soon!!
