Ideally located for exploring this wonderful area of East Sussex and across the border into Kent. Stroll through Heathfield’s historic High Street, where you'll find a variety of independent shops, cafes, and the iconic clock tower, where regular farmers' markets, offering fresh local produce and artisanal goods are held. Nearby Mayfield’s, historic charm includes St Dunstan’s Church, with its striking 13th-century tower, medieval tomb slabs and exquisite stained glass. A short stroll across the road is the 16th-century timber-framed Middle House Pub, which offers delicious food, local ales, and one of East Sussex’s most atmospheric settings.
With lots of opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the area, whether that might be along the scenic 14 mile Cuckoo Trail or in nearby Selwyns Wood, an 11-hectare nature reserve managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust. For days out, there is plenty to do nearby for both families and adult groups, for keen or budding little historians Bateman’s National Trust; the former home of author Rudyard Kipling, is within a 10 minute drive, with Bodiam Castle around 15 minutes further. Hop across the border into Kent, and the charming town of Tunbridge Wells awaits, within a 30 minute drive, with a wealth of boutique shops, cafes, galleries, and live jazz in the Pantiles come summer.
Should you be seeking the seaside air, Eastbourne and Pevensey Bay are located just a 30 minute car journey, with the historic cobbled streets of Rye, the sand dunes of Camber Sands and the wild shores of Winchelsea that bit further.
