There is no beach house closer to both the sea and the dramatic back drop that is the power station on Dungeness beach than Sunray. This unassuming white cottage has a secret to tell on the inside. Jaw dropping urban / retro vintage styling has been weaved around a magnificent original railway carriage that to first impression appears to be passing through the middle of the building from the lounge into the master bedroom - almost as though you are looking in to a moment caught in time. A really fascinating architectural design to behold!

This gorgeous holiday home is one of the more family friendly homes on the beach at Dungeness, offering a great amount of space across three bedrooms, comfortable plump beds, bunks in the family room, pool table in the lounge and the quirky and robust styling that makes for a special stay all year around.

In the Area

Situated on the Dungeness Estate which is home to an unusual landscape. The headland on the south coast of Kent is formed largely of a shingle beach. The Dungeness reserve itself is set back from the sea, boasting mile after mile of open shingle, fresh water pits, wet grassland and stunning wildflower meadows. Dungeness is one of the best places for wildlife in the UK and designated as a Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Natura 2000 site with plenty of walks to enjoy.

For train lovers amongst you, pick up the miniature steam trains that run from Hythe, New Romney and Dymchurch and stop off at Dungeness and climb the stairs to the top of the Lighthouse for a stunning 360 degree view of the area.

Gardeners may be aware that Derek Jarman’s House and garden is located at Dungeness and you are free to walk around and enjoy his planting and sculptures.

So whatever the season you can be sure to enjoy Dungeness and all it has to offer. Don't forget to bring your raincoat as the weather can be known to turn, and your camera to capture the wonderful sights on offer. You will soon discover why it is popular with wildlife enthusiasts, artists, and walkers. Oh... and make sure you visit the renowned Snack Shack at the Dungeness Fish Hut to pick up the daily catch to cook on the BBQ or enjoy a spot of lunch! They also have a pizza night Friday!

50th Birthday Celebration 4.2/5

We had a fantastic stay at Sunday for my wife’s 50th birthday celebration with two other couples. Can’t beat the location and bedrooms were excellent with loads of room. If I would say what was a little less than perfect was that the dinning area and lounge needed some/more softer chairs to accommodate 6 people. The lounge sofa was far too low and sat 2 and then there was two more soft chairs but we needed 6, so had to bring in two of the less comfortable dinning chairs. Overall it was great and we would certainly consider staying there again in the future.

Excellent place on the beach 5/5

We loved our stay here. Super cosy, wonderfully equipped and unique. Fantastic for families/kids- lots to entertain and for cooking this is perfect- very stocked kitchen. Beds very comfy and loved the wood burner. We will definitely be back! If there was one thing I’d ask is that the low parts oh hey ceilings were labelled a bit more obviously- my 6ft2 partner had a couple of accidents and so left with a sore head! But this would not stop us returning!!

A beautiful quirky place to stay. Have always wanted to visit Dungeness and it didn't disappoint! Good walk to the Pilot Inn - great fish and chips. Snack shack a must for fish rolls. Even saw porpoises off the beach. Great trip on the railway to Dymchurch. Fab weekend.

Fabulous property and location 4.7/5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sunray. Excellent quality bedding and very comfortable beds. Great selection of games. Lovely kitchen and easy to use oven. No dishwasher was the only downside. Plenty of parking. Would definitely recommend.

The cottage is absolutely stunning! The history of the house is spectacular and the whole building being built around a train is incredible. The decor of the house is so cool, especially love the peace sign in one of the bedrooms & fairy lights in the train carriage. The cottage is in the perfect location, only a step outside to the beach, giving us a great view of the coast. Everything was perfect and spotless. The kitchen was even stocked with tea and a massive assortment of spices! The pool table kept us entertained for many hours each day, not to mention the log fire that kept us nice and warm. We also loved the range of movies and games available for us. The beds were so comfortable and soft, amazing couple nights of sleep. The care and time the owners have put into this cottage is astounding and we are so grateful! To whoever stays here next, we hope you have as good as a time as we did!
